About the Artist: UK based contemporary artist, Frank Pretorius, has been painting full time since 2018. Born in South Africa (1974) he grew up close to nature, which influenced his art from a young age. The constant promise of a blank canvas with perpetual possibilities keeps luring him back to labouring on new pieces while learning, experimenting and advancing his craft. Whilst he never stopped painting and drawing from his earliest years, his two-decade long career in the advertising industry has hibernated the dream of painting full time which of late became a reality. Frank is an abstract representational artist and his process involves initially constructing the imagery and then breaking it down through a process of deconstruction and finally rebuilding back to a representational image with a certain amount of abstraction, the result of numerous layers of dismantling and rebuilding. He employs traditional materials, charcoal and ink on paper and oil paints on canvas to capture lights elusive quality of transforming figures and landscapes within moments while pursuing snippets of the narrative of life as he experience it. By transporting the ambiance of his surroundings and securing it on canvas and paper, he takes an interval of time and interpret what it is like to be conscious in his surroundings at that moment.
